Amman, August 14: Every day, institutions around the world rely on Turnitin to check and guarantee the originality of academic content. As the world-leading plagiarism prevention software, Turnitin has an immense library of databases that includes more than 45 billion web pages, 337 million student papers and 130 million academic articles. Since the launch of the software, that wealth of resources and functionality has been out of reach to Arabic speakers and academia in the Arab world.

All of that is about to change.

Al Manhal, the only full text searchable electronic database of Arabic content, has worked in partnership with Turnitin for nearly two years to bring the company’s award-winning software to the region. Today, Al Manhal is proud to turn a new page with Turnitin and bring that mission to fruition. Providing access to the complete Al Manhal database of publications, this arrangement has enabled the companies to roll out software tailored to Arabic speakers and academics worldwide.

The market for the product is expansive and it not limited to institutions in the Middle East and North Africa. The partnership includes two key developments. Firstly, Al Manhal will enable Turnitin to detect the wrongful use of its content worldwide. Secondly, working together, Al Manhal and Turnitin have produced a first-of-its-kind Arabic interface that supports all types of Arabic documents.

In response to the agreement, Will Murray, Vice President of Turnitin International, said: "We are delighted to be supporting institutions in the region which are taking a proactive approach to tackling plagiarism. Turnitin is now the only plagiarism prevention product with an Arabic right-to-left reading interface that fully supports Arabic documents. Our partnership with Al Manhal will further enhance learning by meeting the increasing demand for electronic content in the Arabic language."

Sharing Turnitin’s vision, this achievement reflects Al Manhal’s commitment to facilitating the exchange of knowledge and valuable ideas in the Arab world. It will bring further academic integrity to research throughout the region and protect the intellectual property of the over 200 publishers Al Manhal works with. For the first time, Arab universities and research centers will be able to ensure that all written material they support is the original property of its author.

This achievement is a key strategic step for Al Manhal and reflects the company’s continued success. Mohamad Al Baghdadi, Al Manhal CEO, expressed his enthusiasm and noted: "We are extremely proud of our partnership with Turnitin, the world's leading plagiarism and piracy prevention software company. I am very excited to bring Turnitin’s anti-plagiarism capabilities to the Arabic language, and Arabic students and researchers. The partnership between Turnitin and Al Manhal is an integral part of Al Manhal’s mission of improving the quality of learning and research in the Arab world and crucial in order to protect copyrights and intellectual property throughout the region."
